1975 Fiat 124 Spider Convertible - Fast and Fun!

Here’s a very nice little Fiat 124 Spider Convertible we’ve acquired recently for our great Ebay customers. Please contact Mark here at BEST AUTO RECOVERY with any questions. The phone number is 206/914-1173. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment during business hours to inspect this car. Here’s a little background on the 124 model line:

In 1966 the 124 sedan was unveiled by Fiat in Geneva and became “European Car of the Year”. Driven by this success Fiat decided to create a convertible version. Touring built the very first topless 124 designated the Cabriolet C4. For the production version all of the top Italian designers presented their sketches, with Sergio Pininfarina getting the final nod. He designed a car using styling cues from the Corvette and the Ferrari 275.

The 124 Sport Spider debuted in November 1966 at the Turin Car Salon event. It was based on the sedan chassis, strengthened and shortened by six inches. The body was produced by Pininfarina with finishing done by Fiat in Lingotto, Italy. The 124-AS came with a 90 HP engine (1438 cc) and had a flat hood. About 11,000 first generation Spiders sold in the USA and were marketed as the “most popular-priced open sports car in the 1.5-liter class” (Road & Track, 7/1968). By July, 1970 the B-model hit the our market with a larger 110 HP (1608 cc) engine and two 40 double carburetors (WEBER or SOLEX). The hood was enlarged with two bumps because of the taller engine. Exterior updates included a honey combed radiator grill and wider taillights.

In the early 70´s Fiat was very active in rally sports campaigning the 124 Spider. Greater HP versions of the car like the CSA (C-Spider-Abarth) and CD-30 did very well in Europe and both North and South America.

By the mid seventies Fiat had bumped horsepower up to 93 and added the government mandated energy absorbing bumpers. This model, the CS1, was built until July ´78 as the “Spider America”. In June, 1974 the last 124 Sport Spider was sold in Europe. When the CS2 made its début with a two-liter engine it had been detuned to 81 HP in the 49-state-version (California model: 75 HP). Following this came the CS0, a little more powerful with 96 HP. But spider sales already had reached their zenith and production numbers began dropping year-to-year. For the entire 1982 model year Fiat sold only 2000 Spider convertibles here. When the company pulled out of the US market entirely, Pininfarina took over marketing and rebadged the 124 and X-19 under his own label. With limited dealer outlets and demand waning, Pininfarina finished and sold the last Spider in July, 1985 ending a nearly nineteen year production run.

What a nice car! Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a find this is. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a major part of its life garaged because the overall condition is very good! Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Spider hates rust and you won’t find anything to really worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Besides, I don’t think this car has seen a winter road in years. The paint is in good condition and though there are a very few nicks and scratches here or there it still holds quite a shine and certainly doesn’t need to be redone. The odometer reads about 74,800 miles though I have no idea if these are original. The 1800 cc 4-cylinder engine starts immediately and runs great with lots of power. The five-speed gearbox shifts smoothly. The convertible top is in good shape with no rips or tears and has a clear rear plexiglass window. I’ll even include the original bootcover to use when driving top down.
